Indian Angels

Some people come randomly into your life and make you happy. So many others cross your path and teach you the beauty of what before seemed irrelevant or unimportant to you. I am really fortunate to know many people like that. Some of my Indian angels are far from Thanjavur right now and the memories of good moments the last weeks (compare to the total boredom of this immediate moment) make me write about them.

Number 1: Shumit
Loves long distance running more than women. Relationships should be light and simple (like a Sunday morning). From Chennai. I love when he says that word. Dreamer. Changes plans very quickly but this is just because his brain is full of ideas and projects. Single now. In a sudden relationship with God and a new job. Bad dancer (shoulder shaking is not dancing). Fabulous discussions and intellectual conversation. Gets really excited when he talks. Nicest eyes of Asia. Vegetarian. Not even egg. He'll turn carnivore for a women though...he says. Sometimes wears white socks with black shoes. Frisbee lover. Wakes up at 5am to run. A hero. Lost lots of friendship points when he replaced my conversation for a golf match on TV.

Number 2:Phi or Phihito
He is hot. Check the picture. His name is Phi, but Indians seem to be uncomfortable with monosyllabic names and now we call him PhiHo. Vietnamese, American, MIT, soon Cambodian. Lived in Japan's most expensive hotel for 2 summers. Changed Citigroup life for running an orphanage in Cambodia for 3 years. Admirable. Does not talk much, he lets me talk, yeeei. Currently looking for the ying to his yang. Ate more seafood during childhood than nobody else in America. Good dancer. Lovely and lovable. He is into interns, good roommate if you want to share room. Sleeps fully dressed. Showers a lot though. Indian food is not his thing. We got sick with the same soup once. He can sleep everywhere, even in Indian buses. Positive thinker.

Number 3: Anupama
What to say about her. First airforce female in India. Now converted into microfinance queen. Funny, irreverently opinionated. Mother. Opinionated again. People's person. Take it eassssy. Creative. In love with her husband. My personal teacher of "Indian Culture 101". Sporty. Stylish. Did I say she is funny? Urban girl with rural consciousness. Great company in a VIP party or in a coconut-roofed shack. Adaptability. Believes in women. Daily mood-booster.

Number 4: Ashit
Tank specialist. Engineer. How can you be an army tank specialist and be funny? That's Ashit. Takes care of me. He walked on fire ashes and, logically, got burnt (check ashes where Ashit walked on piccie above). He did not calculate effects of fire well. A gentleman. Gets mad when people don't know where Orissa is. Currently learning Spanish (says "Hola" when he wants to thank me for something and "Gracias" in the morning when he first see me). He wants a 80GB ipod, "for my wife", he says. In sudden love with Spain, after wimbledon, tour de france and eurocup victories.

Number 5: Sarlaksha, simply Sasha
Explosion of energy. Young. The most spiritual person I know so far. Shaved her hair for her grandma. In love with life. Asmathic. I slapped her during one asthma attack. Another vegetarian (Looooves animals). Upper caste but low arrogance. Future PhD in Psychology. Call her if you have a question on love stuff. Fabulous dancer. She can shake the unshakable parts of the body. On the ground. Tamil best singer (18 years of classes). Permanent smile. Talks too fast. My temple guide and tamil music advisor.
