Jell-O shots on Halloween night

Image
Americans are fun to be with. They get all excited with little things. 'Oooohh, that's fantastic' 'woooaow, those shoes are gorgeous', 'oohh, grosss' Woaww you are from Barceloooona. You have two eyes and one nose (!) A.W.E.S.O.M.E So, whatever you say, they are going to be surprised. One other little thing that I noticed in class is that teachers will always give you credit for whatever you ask...even if sometimes questions are kind of stupid (note: class participation counts between 5-10% of your final mark, so people's class interventions are sometimes terribly ridiculous). 'That's a good question', my stats teacher keeps on saying whenever somebody asks something or 'you are partly right, almost close to the answer' when you see clearly that the guy's answer was really, really wrong. Oh well, I guess they want to keep everybody confidently happy (and paying next year's tuition fee). I hope I do not give the impression that...

Getting ready for winter

Short days. Cold. I almost feel this could be my posting today. Short days and cold. Full stop. It is not very, very cold yet, but...who cares about the weather? why do we talk so much about it? There is nothing to do, buy another jacket perhaps. Move somewhere else. I never minded cold temperatures. I believe weather has influenced my development as a close-to-mature little person. So, after all, I care about weather. Oh, those rainy grey, grey days in Brussels I am sure they changed me quite a bit. Needless to say, Poland, Finland...DC...I think I felt back to my roots in Albania. I hear from my friends there that October is being warm and they still go to Dhermi/Vlora and bath in the Adriatic waters. I miss that. All in all to say how important geography and meteorology can be in our lives. Two things that, even if we would like to, are out of our control. This posting might sound kind of weird, right? well, my "Why are so many countries poor?" class is giving me some insi...

The more I want to do

the less I manage to do. Why, why, why, why every time I watch the clock and I am sitting at my desk all ready to study it says that it is 10.00pm? (Regrets of a non-productive day)

Having a break: Cougars night!!

Image
Look at us having a break? Siobhan invited us for dinner. She is not only super cool but a great cook. I learnt a couple of things of the American culture...do you know what a 'cougar' is??! "An older woman trying way too hard to look young. Usually heavy makeup and way too tan, sometimes orange. Generally has leathery, smoking damaged skin, short skirt, and may have obvious breast implants" (copied from the www.urbandictionary.com) Very important stuff...right!? We, the future 'leaders of the world'....jeeezzz

Time to get serious?...or not yet

Procrastination is over. I am going to sacrifice the long Columbus holiday weekend and stay home to.... yeas, yeeas to study...but also to do many other things, such as sleep, sleep, sleep. Brunch, brunch, brunch. Shoooop winter clothes. Weather is still quite warm, but I need to prepare my winter Harvard outfit. Had somebody told me that life at Harvard is so intense, I would have taken a sabbatical or some time off before coming here. Indeed, I could have done it, I am just too much of a good girl. Thinking twice...I sort of had a quite relaxed couple of months before coming here. The highlight of the day is that I finally wear contact lenses. After 2 steps and a half. What do I mean? Ok, here in the great state of Massssaacchussettss (it is better to triple all consonants!) and most probably in the rest of the United States you need to go 3 times (3 steps said the doctor) and talk to the optometrist in order that he/she prescribes a pair of contact lenses. After the 3 visits, you a...
