Spring Break: in the Light

What can happen if you put in the same room a West Point graduate, the sweetest gays from NYC and LA, a future US diplomat, a Spaniard who has been a mormon, an opus dei member and now a hoffman graduate, a 52-year old doctor with 0 wrinkles, a puerto-rican/italian, a "togofrancaise" in search of her spontaneity, a high-heeled, high-souled French society princess, Ali G's brother, Eric Joseph, the future of Ecuador looking for her heart, Jane thinking where and how to find her voice, an expert in Latin America, an Austrian ex-robot, the Serbian Militia, Federal civil servants from the Philippines and India, the most lovable Ukrainian Borat, a Venezuelan actress, green-eyed Brasil, a king from Kyrgyzstan and a Korean wise young man who all thought to be Mongolian, a Chinese baby girl turned into a grown-up, an Iraqi-American who is surprised that somebody can change the way she is, the future Prime Minister of Turkey an his Minister of Finance, a Brazilian-Korean-American friends with a Nigerian-American...? (a total of 35 new friends)

The answer to that question shall remain inside of me.

I spent my spring break thinking, laughing, crying, hitting pillows, mocking teachers, reflecting, loving and feeling. My vow: live life fully and passionately.

Cheers to life and to deeper spiritual connections. Let it last.

We took the car and drove for 2 hours outside Lomé. Heading to the mountains and the waterfalls of Togo, in the region of Kpallime. The kids were excited, my parents were eager to discover outside the capital but I was quickly heavy-hearted when the rural views started filling the car window. For all the years I have been living in West Africa...seeing poverty in the villages still has the same impact on me that it had that first day I put one foot in Benin to visit Boyfriend Husband years back. Poverty of everything. Water, electricity, connectivity, food scarcity. The distance between the have's (I) and have nots scarring your heart. Detox or how to make your life miserable

New Year, new experimenting...I am learning that detoxifying on a liquid-only diet might not be for me. This week I ate baby food for 36 hours and I craved the crunchiest thing you could imagine, from chips to a 'pain au raisins' from our local bakery. There are two camps, or multiple, but at least at my office women in camp 1 swear that drinking water only and doing internal cleansing with enemas (aaaargh) works wonders, and camp 2 believes is all fad.
