From DC to Brussels

A normal person lives in a normal house...but Meritxell lives in noisy, under-construction, dusty houses with kind of very 'unique' individuals....Sir Maguire, Rose-Marie Harris, the bunch of Americans I lived with during my first month in DC, famous Sophie 'la Wallone' who wanted to send me to a Belgium jail, the two weirdos I lived with in Saarbrucken, my sex&drug-loving flatmates in Norwich...are very well-known examples by some of you. From DC to Brussels I ended up living with funny Fanny. She looked a little bit stressed and I realized that she really was so the day she run away from a Delhaize, carrying the groceries...after her credit card was not accepted. Ooops. I could not sleep that night...thinking of Fanny entering my room. Luckily, she was fine, only with loads of character and little patience. The house I shared with her (check the picture) during my Brussels pre-posting...do you think is A or B. Easy quizz...

We took the car and drove for 2 hours outside Lomé. Heading to the mountains and the waterfalls of Togo, in the region of Kpallime. The kids were excited, my parents were eager to discover outside the capital but I was quickly heavy-hearted when the rural views started filling the car window. For all the years I have been living in West Africa...seeing poverty in the villages still has the same impact on me that it had that first day I put one foot in Benin to visit Boyfriend Husband years back. Detox or how to make your life miserable

New Year, new experimenting...I am learning that detoxifying on a liquid-only diet might not be for me. This week I ate baby food for 36 hours and I craved the crunchiest thing you could imagine, from chips to a 'pain au raisins' from our local bakery. There are two camps, or multiple, but at least at my office women in camp 1 swear that drinking water only and doing internal cleansing with enemas (aaaargh) works wonders, and camp 2 believes is all fad.
